Are you a journalist writing about health issues? Have you covered epilepsy in a way which deepens public understanding of the condition?

If so, you’re eligible for this year’s Excellence in Epilepsy Journalism Award.

In collaboration with the International Bureau for Epilepsy, we’ve just launched the 2012 edition of the award and are looking forward to reading your submissions.

This is the fourth time we have jointly organised the award with the International Bureau for Epilepsy and we’re delighted to continue this initiative which has attracted a growing number of entries from all over the world.

Last year we had 49 entries from 24 countries and were pleased with the high standards of the winning entries.

To date, the award has proven a fruitful collaboration, rewarding some really excellent writing by journalists who demonstrate a commitment to high-quality health coverage.

What are the judges looking for?
Epilepsy affects nearly 50 million people worldwide, yet it is not always well understood. We believe the media have an important role to play in raising awareness of the condition through reporting which is informative and original while remaining interesting to readers.

The competition is open to all journalists and will award prizes in four categories: print, online, broadcast TV and broadcast radio.

Entries must have been published between 30th November 2011 and 30th November 2012. The winning articles in each category will be chosen by independent panel of judges.
