UCB is joining forces with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) for a great new campaign that supports people with Parkinson’s disease.

The Tell Us Your Story Facebook campaign has the twin benefits of giving people with Parkinson’s a place to share their stories, while at the same time the initiative will raise money for research.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation is expanding its online community in an effort to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and build a support network of patients and families around the world who are experiencing the disease on a daily basis.

So how does this raise research funds? Well, every time a reader clicks ‘like’ or ‘share’ on one of the stories submitted to the Tell Us Your Story Facebook application, UCB will donate $5, up to $60,000, to support The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s research initiatives.

This donation will then be matched as part of the Foundation’s Brin Wojcicki Challenge, meaning the total potential contribution by the end of this year could be $120,000. The Facebook application itself was designed by a social technology company called Syncapse on a pro-bono basis.

The campaign is the kind of collaboration that delivers an innovative support service for today’s Parkinson’s community while investing in the search for therapies that we hope will pay off in the years ahead.

For UCB, the campaign fits perfectly with our continuing commitment to the Parkinson’s community. It neatly compliments existing platforms like the Parkinson’s Voices website and the More Than Motion initiative, as well as our own investment in R&D.

The Tell Us Your Story fundraising drive runs until 31 December 2012 but the community it builds will last long into the future.
