What is myasthenia gravis?Myasthenia gravis (MG) is not just a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disease; it is a profound challenge that impacts the lives of those who face it daily.1,2,3 Characterized by symptoms such as severe muscular weakness, MG can lead to difficulties in vision, speech, and even life-threatening respiratory issues.3,4,5,6 Despite advances in medical research that have enhanced our understanding and management of MG, the journey remains fraught with difficulties for people living with MG, their families, and caregivers.7,8 Bringing MG into focusThe ‘Faces of MG’ campaign is a collaborative effort between UCB, the MG community and healthcare professionals that seeks to elevate the voices of those deeply connected to the disease. This initiative is not merely about raising awareness of this life-altering disease; it is about humanizing the experience, fostering empathy, and creating a community of support and understanding. Through this campaign, we aim to make the invisible visible. We have created a series of images that put MG in focus, documenting the raw essence and harsh realities of those living with the disease and those committed to improving their lives through the lens of powerful photography. Through the ‘Faces of MG’ campaign, we strive to create a world where those impacted by MG are seen, heard, and supported through every step of their journey.
