A congress of collaboration and progress

Today the dermatology community gathers in Paris for the start of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) 2025 Congress. It is always a special moment in the calendar to hear from diverse perspectives and share science-led insights that progress our understanding of chronic, inflammatory diseases where large unmet need remains. It is on the intersection of science and human connection where true innovation lies.

For UCB, EADV presents an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to developing evidence-driven solutions that aim to improve the lives of people living with chronic inflammatory diseases. This year, highlights of UCB data being presented include the first presentation of results from our Phase 2 trial in atopic dermatitis (AD), as well as new long-term data on hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). These are only a part of the pool of UCB’s twenty abstracts across five indications, including HS, psoriasis (PSO), AD, psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). The breadth of this contribution across our immunology portfolio reflects our determination to transform care in conditions with high unmet need.

For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of EADV is the chance to connect with researchers, healthcare professionals, patient representatives, and colleagues. The energy of this community is inspiring, whether in the scientific symposia, poster sessions, or hands-on demonstrations, being on-site at EADV is a reminder that innovation only comes alive when shared.

Science inspired by patients

At UCB, patients are at the heart of everything we do, and we always aim to root our science firmly in patient need. That is why our presence at EADV is not just about data, but about reflecting reality, fostering empathy, and bringing patient experiences to life through immersive experiences.

For example, the Unbearable Home – developed by UCB in partnership with patients, first introduced in 2023 – will be showcased at our booth to capture the physical and emotional challenges of living with HS. Alongside this, tools such as the HS lesional skin model will enable physicians to visualize and explore the hidden structures and tunnels beneath the skin, helping to educate and inform treatment decisions in real-world practice.

All of UCB’s on-site activities have been designed to allow healthcare professionals and the wider community to step into patients’ shoes, to better understand their experiences and connect the science with lived reality. These tools are not only educational but support practical dialogue to redefine care that treats people, not just symptoms.

Looking ahead

Each year, EADV strengthens my conviction in the importance of what we do at UCB. It reminds me that progress comes not only from the data we generate, but also from the connections we build.

With nearly 300 colleagues attending this year, I’m looking forward to seeing how we can leverage our collective networks to drive progress to advance more patient-centred care. Keep an eye on the UCB Global corporate channels for daily highlights from the team on the ground. If you’re attending in person and share our passion for shaping a more patient-centric future, do stop by one of our scientific symposia or our booth to connect with us.
