Tomorrow is World Arthritis Day, an awareness day established in 1996 to raise awareness and highlight support for people living with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoporosis.

The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) selects a new theme for World Arthritis Day every one to two years. The topic for World Arthritis Day in 2013-2014 is healthy ageing for people with RMDs – "Living Better, Ageing Well".

It covers the physical and mental changes that occur as part of the ageing process from birth throughout our lifespan, as well as all the other factors that affect our ability to enjoy an optimal quality of life. Tomorrow – October 12th – marks the start of a year-long campaign on healthy ageing for those living with RMDs.

To encourage active and healthy ageing, EULAR has provided a series of tools for people with RMDs including information about exercise and motivational fact sheets. To find out more about these and other activities visit the World Arthritis Day website which is supported and managed by the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR).

Patient-focused innovation is what UCB is all about. We will continue to play our part in developing innovative solutions to improve the lives of those affected by RMDs.
