New patient initiatives for World Parkinson’s Disease Day

UCB is marking World Parkinson’s Day (April 11th 2011) with new initiatives to support people with the disease. These include:

  • “Today I will …” which invites people affected by Parkinson’s Disease to inspire others by sharing their day-to-day motivations and personal commitments or ‘pledges’ on www.parkinsons-voices.eu. Pledges of 25 words or less, with artwork or photographs if preferred, can range from everyday goals, such as going for a walk, writing a letter or spending time with family, to fulfilling a lifetime ambition.

World Parkinson’s Disease Day is marked on April 11th each year to commemorate the birthday of Dr James Parkinson (1755 - 1824), who first described the condition. Wearing the red tulip chosen as the symbol of Parkinson’s Disease helps to raise awareness of one of the most common progressive neurological disorders and to show support for people around the world who are living with Parkinson's Disease or care for someone with the condition.
