To ensure its commitment to humane treatment of animals used in experiments, UCB has long-established committees on Ethics of Animal Experimentation, as required by current legislation. These committees include researchers, technicians, an independent Named Veterinary Surgeon and external experts.
They scrutinize experimental protocols involving animals, advice and give their consent to the fulfillment of the experimentations. These committees can perform regular inspections of our animal facilities and review our animal care and use programme.
The committees consider the possible benefits of alternative approaches to reduce, refine or replace the use of animals and require the researcher to show how this is implemented into our protocols and procedures.
